Here is the one and only High Plains Club Newsletter!!
High Plains News Letter
Fairbooks are in, and I
have them with me today. You will need to make additional copies of the fair
entree forms if there is more than one member per family. If you are planning on
trying to get a camping spot at fair write High Plains on the top of the form
and turn it in ASAP. Also let Michelle know and she will put a list together. We
will try to camp together this year. But don’t count on it.
Your fair entrees are due to the EXTENSION OFFICE by JULY 1st. No later!
Michelle's member in good standing list is due to the office by July 1st also.
This means that members must have attended at least 6 meetings, complete a
community service and have done a presentation before July 1. If you are short
on the number of meeting that you have attended you may make up one or two by
helping at the fairgrounds on Thurs. work nights. They meet at 5:30 or 6:00
every Thurs. before fair. Even if you are not short meetings this is a really
good way to help get the fairgrounds ready for fair. If you will not be able to
make the pre-fair clean up day, or the post fair clean up day this is a good
opportunity to put your time in. It is required for clubs to help clean up
before and after fair. Pre fair clean up is on July 30th and post fair clean up
is on Aug. 9th. Plan on attending one or both of these clean up days.
The extension office has scheduled three additional sheep and swine weigh dates.
June 21 from
5-7 p.m., July 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. There will be no help there for unloading and
loading, so you need to have your own help and plan on helping others. This
weigh in is just to help members keep track of their animals’ weight. It is not
required, but it is very helpful.
Our next club meeting will be on July 8th in Kiowa. We will meet at 7 p.m. at
the Ag. building. Officers need to meet at 6:30 p.m. Officers will take members
on a tour of the fairgrounds. This will help new members know where to go during
fair.
I have club dates and times for snack shack. I need to know by the next club
meeting when you are able to help. This is a REQUIREMENT for all 4-H clubs. The
snack shack is the youth councils’ yearly fundraiser. In the past we have had
members and parents not show up for their shift. This is not acceptable! I try
to make 2 hour shift for everyone and if you don’t show up for your shift the
snack shack is short on help, or someone from your club gets stuck doing your
shift. This is not an optional activity; this is required of all 500 4-H
members. Your club can also be fined for not fulfilling its duty.
HIGH PLAINS SNACK SHACK/ SECURITY DAYS AND TIMES
4 MEMBERS AND 1-2 ADULTS PER SHIFT
Tues. Aug. 3 - 1:15 pm- 5:15 pm
Thurs. July 31 - 3:00 pm - 7:15 pm
Sunday Aug. 3 - 2:30 pm - 5:15 pm
As long as everyone takes their turn we will be able to make these into 2-hour
shifts with no problem.
Thank You to all of the members and parents for all of their help at the
cloverbud camp yesterday. There were about 30 children in attendance. You all
did a GREAT job! It was a huge success. A special thanks to the Card family for
organizing and running our camp day. THANK YOU!!
Sometime member and parents, take the time to say Thank you to your officers,
parents, members and leaders who have put their time and knowledge into helping
with the club this year. Sometime in our hurried lives we forget what other
people do for us, and all the time and effort they put into helping others. We
don’t realize what a few words do to make a person’s day a little brighter. So
take the time to show your appreciation to those around you.
Thank you to all of the officers, leaders, members and parents that have made
High Plains a successful club. We couldn’t do it without you and all of your
help!!
